WSJ: Jeffrey Scott Shapiro: A Gun Ban That Misfired

The Wall Street Journal published an article today regarding gun control and how the proposed controls can backfire.

Jeffrey Scott Shapiro says, “As a former prosecutor in Washington, D.C., who enforced firearms and ammunition cases while a severe local gun ban was still in effect, I am skeptical of the benefits that many imagine will result from additional gun-control efforts. I dislike guns, but I believe that a nationwide firearms crackdown would place an undue burden on law enforcement and endanger civil liberties while potentially increasing crime.”

There is so much proof that disarming law-abiding civilians only gives criminals more ammunition to cause harm. When gun controls are placed you are not harming the criminals since they will continue to have guns regardless but the unarmed civilians. In Washington D.C. since the gun ban was gun ban was struck down, murders have steadily gone down, from 186 in 2008 to 88 in 2012, the lowest number since the law was enacted in 1976.

Just saying…

Isn’t it interesting how the solution to everything, according to those on the political left, is to continue doing what isn’t working now and hasn’t worked in the past? Odd…very odd. Why is it that the folks on the other side of the aisle shut down discussion of any solutions that doesn’t exactly coincide with their vision of a better America, even when said solutions have a much better chance of actually succeeding than the failed policies of the past and present?

Perhaps it’s because these solutions don’t place ever-increasing power in the hands of the government.
