Obama Warns Against Steep Spending Cuts, Presses for Immigration Bill in Inaugural Address

On Monday President Obama launched his second term of presidency urging the nation that he will not allow steep cuts to “entitlements,” he will continue pressing for the immigration reform package, and among other challenges such as controlling climate change.

Growing up poor in this country my family could have asked for help from the government, but never during that time did we look to welfare or state assistance. My parents were able to work, so why would we take it? It was there for people who needed it and we weren’t them. The difference with Obama’s America is that people have a sense of entitlement. They believe that the government needs to be doing more for them. This sort of mentality will not be easy to change especially since the currant president’s teachings to the public is “you deserve it.”

Being an immigrant and proud American thanks to Reagan’s Amnesty I look forward to the immigration reform talks. President Obama had promised immigration reform during his first term and he disappointed many (as is the norm.) However, he still received most of the Latino votes. I hope the Republicans take the initiative on immigration reform and make a change. Change the “perception” of the Republican Party.

Regards to climate change I am just speechless. Not that this is a terrible idea (just silly to mention as a priority,) but his focus should be on growing the nations economy and the job market. Enough said.
