After the last presidential election of 2012 there was a wake-up-call to get the Latino vote in order to win an election. This is a great awakening for politicians as well as Latinos.

Politicians now know that they need the Latino vote to win or to even come close. During this years NYC mayoral election all four democratic candidates are wining and dining Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., the city’s highest-ranking Latino official. He said “I feel like the homecoming queen—everyone wants to take me to the dance.”

This new awakening has created a sense of empowerment in the Latino communities. They know that without their vote a candidate has little to no chance of winning and are enjoying the attention of being the homecoming queen.
