Out of Respect for Hugo Chavez, American Flag Half Staff

Flag half staff

When I read and see things such as lowering the American flag at half staff for a foreign dignitary that was not an ally to America it makes me furious. Yes, I know that U.S. protocol allows for flags to be lowered for foreign dignitaries however this was a poor decision.

I totally get it that Citgo is a privately owned Venezuelan refinery but why lower the American flag. Was the Venezuelan flag not enough? Clearly they realized they upset many and after a couple of hours they rose the American flag.

Pathetic. I suppose if Hitler had died yesterday the flags would be lowered because he is ‘a fellow human being’ and ‘we must be fair’.

The article you reference calls Citgo both a ‘Venezuelan-owned oil refinery’ and a ‘private company’. As Wikipedia notes it is a state-owned company, not what I call private: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citgo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petróleos_de_Venezuela . It is yet another wealthy, productive oil business that Americans developed and allowed a country to take over and siphon the fruits of their labor (ala Saudi Arabia).

The only thing more pathetic are the plans to display Chavez indefinitely like Lenin and Mao: http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/03/07/17226935-maduro-chavez-body-to-be-permanently-displayed?lite

What a circus is this world.

      Circus for sure.
Yesterday I was speaking to a liberal friend and she mentioned Hugo Chavez’s death in passing. I told her it was time and I expressed my concern for the people of Venezuela as well as Latin America. She responded by saying “It is very sad and credit is due since he did so much for his country.” Yes, this is the sort of people I am surrounded by in NYC.
Not only do I struggle to change the perception of a republic but I need to teach my children not to fall to liberal peer pressure on a daily basis.
